Business:

  • The group discusses meeting once every two weeks but plans to keep it every week for now.
  • Vic is receiving seeds and updating the NASC seedbank.
  • We discuss The Flytrap Project. Mark and Ben plan to get together and work on moving the project forward.
  • Ben is still holding onto the NASC banner.
  • Elections are coming up in January.

Business:

  • There have been a few potential rescue sites that we have been keeping our eyes on. The group discusses the status on those sites.
  • There is speculation that the American Museum of Natural History in New York City may be selling potentially poached Venus flytraps.
  • Vic is beginning to get donations for the NASC seed bank and will be updating it soon!
  • Friends of Plant Conservation and the North Carolina Plant Protection Program has received the funds from the NASC Benefit Auction!
  • Ryan is working on his newsletter article.

Business:

  • Discussed flytrap sources, poaching, and their medicinal/vitamin uses relating to the online business Carnivora
  • Thanks to the NASC auction and donations, $2000 was donated to the Friends of Plant Conservation and the North Carolina Plant Protection Program for continued restoration and management at Cedar Mountain Bog in Transylvania County, NC.  This money will help protect and preserve mountain Sarracenia purpurea and the Federally Endangered Sarracenia jonesii in this Appalachian bog.

Business:

  • Mark will be joining Heather in her hometown for the Fall Festival at Bur-mil Park in Greensboro this weekend. NASC will share a table with the CCPS. And Heather will be wearing a fun costume!! Mark might be if peer pressure sways him.
  • Mark tried to make contact with a landowner in Florida while he was in the area. He left his card and is hoping to make contact with the owner in the future.
  • Heather finished her article for the newsletter!
  • Mark got a reply from about buying property.

  • Mark tells us how manning the NASC table at the NECPS show went and talks about recent events that took place in the CP community.
  • The group talks about more potential rescue spots in three different states. We talk about which is in the most danger first and what can be done about the situation.
  • Ben will be showing CPs to children this weekend at a children's museum.
  • Mark and Heather will be attending the Fall Festival at Bur-mil Park in Greensboro, NC. Heather's hometown!
